“Special Prosecutor’s Bold Move Sets Precedent for Future Investigations”
Edem Senanu, Co-Chair of the Citizens Movement Against Corruption, has praised the Special Prosecutor’s investigation into former President Mahama, stating, “It is an important and bold step… it sets a precedent.”
Mr. Senanu noted that it’s significant for a sitting president to initiate an investigation into a former president, especially when the investigation exonerates the former president. He commended the Special Prosecutor’s bold step, saying it sets an important precedent for future investigations.
In response to calls for President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Bawumia to face similar scrutiny, Mr. Senanu emphasized that investigations require specific issues to be triggered. He praised the Office of the Special Prosecutor for its transparency and thoroughness, highlighting their detailed chronology of events.
Mr. Senanu explained that this timeline distinguishes between the Airbus negotiations and the later engagement of the former president’s brother as an agent, negating any potential influence on the transaction. He concluded that the conclusions drawn align with those from investigations in the U.S. and the U.K., questioning how anyone could dispute these findings.
