George Krobea Asante, Deputy National Communications Director for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has announced that a Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia-led government will abolish the 10% Value-Added Tax (VAT) on betting. This move aims to alleviate the economic burden on the youth and boost the economy.

The Ghana Revenue Authority introduced the 10% tax on betting, games, and lottery wins in 2023, sparking protests from youth who argued that taxing betting is unfair and exacerbates economic hardship.

In an exclusive interview with Kwadwo Sefah-Danquah on Happy98.9FM’s morning show, Asante emphasized that Dr. Bawumia has pledged to eliminate numerous taxes, including VAT on betting, electricity, spare parts, and others, to ease pressure on Ghanaians and boost the economy.

Asante believes this move will significantly improve living standards and urged Ghanaians to vote for Dr. Bawumia, citing his proven track record of economic competence and clear vision for Ghana’s future. He implied that former President Mahama is not a viable alternative, citing his administration’s failure to address economic challenges.
