The Zongo Voter Empowerment Initiative aims to promote active citizenship among Zongo communities in Accra, Ghana, by encouraging participation in the Electoral Commission’s online voter exhibition exercise.
Program Objectives:
1.Increase voter verification rates among Zongo communities.
2.Enhance civic participation in Zongo communities and democratic engagement.
3.Ensure accurate voter information for eligible Zongo citizens for the 2024 Elections.
Implementation Strategy
▪Imams Engagement: Collaborate with imams to emphasize civic responsibility of Zongos during Friday sermons.
▪Mosques Outreach: Utilize mosques as information hubs, distributing voter guides and promoting online participation.
▪Community Ambassadors: Appoint local ambassadors to facilitate online voter verification.
▪Constituency Coordination: Assign coordinators to oversee program implementation in each constituency.
Daily Activities for the 7-Day Exhibition Exercise
Day 1-2: Sensitization:
Engage imams and community leaders to promote the program.
Distribute voter guides and promotional materials.
Day 3-4: Voter Verification:
Assist community members in verifying their voter registration information online.
Provide technical support for online participation.
Day 5-6: Community Outreach:
Organize community events to promote voter verification.
Engage local chiefs, imams and groups to amplify the program’s reach in mosques and social gatherings.
Day 7: Evaluation and Feedback.
Monitor participation rates and gather feedback.
Identify areas for improvement and plan for future programs.
By implementing the Zongo Voter Empowerment Program, the Zongo Caucus can effectively empower Zongo communities in Accra, Ghana, to participate in the democratic process, potentially leading to a significant victory for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming 2024 elections.
