We’ll sustain, enhance free SHS policy – Mahama

Ghana’s President, John Dramani Mahama, has reaffirmed his commitment to sustain and enhance the Free Senior High School Policy (FSHS) to ensure its benefits reach Ghanaian families.
He stressed education is the cornerstone of national progress and vowed his administration will address challenges of overcrowding, feeding problems and to ensure quality all levels.
Speaking during the 92nd National Annual Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission Ghana at Gomoa Pomadze in the Central Region, President Mahama acknowledged the policy’s challenges and assured the public of measures to improve its implementation.
“As promised, while strengthening basic education, we will sustain and enhance the free SHS policy so that we gain the benefits that it is intended to bestow. “The completion of abundant e-blocks, and investments to provide equitable learning opportunities nationwide and across the whole education value chain,” he stated.
President Mahama also announced plans to set up a committee to begin work for a National Review Conference which bring together experts and stakeholders to discuss and proffer sustainable solutions to improve the policy to uplift students and bring relief to parents.
“This conference will review our educational system right from the kindergarten through the basic to secondary to tertiary to technical vocational education, and identify what the hindrances to quality education are at each level of the educational system,” he added.
