The Minister of State in Charge of Government Communications and Member of Parliament for Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has confirmed that President John Mahama’s official X account was temporarily compromised in the early hours of March 17, 2025.

Speaking on State of Affairs with Joshua Kodjo Mensah, he stated that “some unscrupulous persons have compromised it, but efforts are on the way to recover it, and it should be recovered in a moment from now.”

The specifics of the breach remain unclear, but reports indicate that unauthorized individuals took control of the president’s account and used it to promote a cryptocurrency project. The compromised account posted:

“Ghana is leading the way for Africa’s fintech sector by making payments fast and free across the continent, with support from Solana and the Bank of Ghana through the Solanafrica project. We look forward to other African nations joining us soon. Support Solanafrica by purchasing the Solanafrica memecoin, which helps cover transaction fees.”

The post, which linked the Ghanaian government to Solanafrica, a supposed blockchain initiative, raised concerns among citizens and cybersecurity experts. However, sources close to the presidency have assured the public that the incident was swiftly contained, and the X account has since been restored.
