The contenders include former Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Henry Boakye (popularly known as Okoyo); Bernard Bediako Baidoo Esq., who also serves as the Akwatia Constituency Secretary; and Erasmus Koney Ali, widely known in Akwatia as Asanka Poyooyo.

The aspirants appeared before the vetting committee on Thursday, July 31. The committee was chaired by the Deputy National Organiser of the party, Kobby Balon, and supported by the Director of Logistics and Protocol, Ludwig Hlodze.

Following the vetting, balloting was conducted to determine the order on the ballot paper. Bernard Bediako Baidoo picked the first position, Erasmus Koney Ali the second, and former MP Henry Boakye picked the third.

Speaking to Journalists at the residency where the vetting was held in Koforidua, Bernard Bediako Baidoo and Erasmus Koney Ali both expressed their readiness to lead the party in a peaceful process to victory.

“We know that by Monday late afternoon, one of us will emerge winner, and then we will all rally behind that person. To make the party proud on September 2,” Bernard Bediako Baidoo said.

“With hard work, I can assure you I am winning,” Erasmus Koney Ali stated.

The Director for Logistics and Protocol of the NDC, Ludwig Hlodze, described the process as a smooth one. He is calling on supporters of all the aspirants to rally behind the ultimate winner on Monday, while stressing that the NDC is approaching the by-election with a reset agenda.

“We spoke to them to go there united. Only one person will win the primaries. We will all support that person to make sure we win the seat,” he stated.
