The Deputy Minister of Education, Dr. John Ntim Fordjour, has stated that the Ministry will continue to conduct the licensure examination for teachers. This, he believes, will ensure that professional teachers are produced for the education sector.

Speaking at the launch of this year’s Ghana Teacher Prize in Accra, Dr. Fordjour emphasized that the licensure exams are crucial for recognizing teachers as professionals.

He added that the call to ban the exams, made by the NDC flagbearer, will not benefit the sector.

October 5th is celebrated globally as World Teacher’s Day, recognizing the vital role teachers play in education. This year’s theme is “Celebrating Excellence, Valorizing Our Teachers.” The event will be held in Kumasi, Ashanti Region.

Education stakeholders, including GNAT, NAGRAT, CCT, and TEWU, have raised concerns about teacher motivation and resources. They have called for increased funding, with the GNAT General Secretary advocating for at least 20% of government expenditure to be committed to education.

The Deputy Minister pledged the government’s commitment to providing resources for the sector. The Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Dr. Eric Nkansah, emphasized the need for innovations to support teachers.
