PPP joins NDC to reject EC’s decision to rerun election in Dome Kwabenya
The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has raised concerns over the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to re-run elections at the Abokobi Women’s Development Training Centre polling station in Dome Kwabenya.
According to the EC, the re-run is necessary due to errors in the initial statement of poll, which affected the validity of the results.
The PPP argues that the decision undermines the democratic process, claiming it disregards votes already cast and wastes resources.
The party also questions the legal basis for the EC’s decision, suggesting it contradicts electoral laws under C.I. 127.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has also rejected the move, stating that their candidate, Elikplim Akurugu, won the December 7 election.
They insist the original results should stand without any further action.
Despite the backlash, the EC has defended its decision, emphasizing the need to maintain fairness and transparency in the electoral process.
Officials have assured the public that the re-run will take place before the inauguration of Parliament.
