NPP Calls on NDC to Sign Peace Accord
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has issued a heartfelt appeal to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to reconsider its position on signing a peace declaration ahead of the 2024 elections.
The NDC’s National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, recently stated that the party would not sign a peace declaration, a stance the NPP finds deeply concerning and potentially incendiary.
The NPP strongly condemns this statement, expressing grave concerns that the NDC leadership is cultivating an atmosphere of fear and suspicion among their supporters, potentially laying the groundwork for rejecting the outcome of the 2024 elections.
In contrast, the NPP reaffirms its unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and stability in Ghana, a principle it has consistently upheld since the advent of the Fourth Republic.
Notably, the NPP has always signed the Peace Accord since 2008, regardless of whether it was in government or opposition. The party urges the NDC to explore constructive channels for addressing any grievances and calls upon the National Peace Council, Civil Society Organizations, Religious and Traditional Authorities, and all well-meaning Ghanaians to join in condemning the NDC’s statement and encouraging the party to reconsider its stance.
The NPP assures the nation of its continued commitment to accepting the outcome of the 2024 elections in good faith and maintaining peace and stability in the country, ensuring that Ghana’s democratic process remains peaceful and credible.
