MUSLIM LEADERSHIP FAILS GHANA: NDC USA ZONGO CAUCUS CONDEMNS OFFICE OF CHIEF IMAM’S BETRAYAL
The NDC USA Zongo Caucus is appalled and disappointed by the Chief Imam’s decision to bless Dr. Bawumia’s presidential nomination documents. This misguided move is a stark reminder of the Chief Imam’s office’s misplaced priorities and the willingness to compromise the values of the Muslim community for political gain.
We also hold the Council of Muslim Chiefs in Ghana equally responsible for this betrayal. Their silence and inaction in the face of this blatant disregard for the welfare of the Muslim community is a dereliction of their duty.
As Ghana burns under the devastating effects of galamsey, the Chief Imam’s office silence is deafening. Our water bodies are being destroyed, our forests are being decimated, and our health is being compromised.
Yet, the Chief Imam’s office chooses to indulge in political grandstanding, honoring an invitation to bless Dr. Bawumia’s nomination documents. This is a betrayal of the trust placed in the Chief Imam and the office by the Muslim community.
The Chief Imam’s office actions are a slap in the face of the marginalized and oppressed. We demand more from our leaders.
The Zongo Caucus-USA demand that the Chief Imam office and the Council of Muslim Chiefs use their offices to speak truth to power, to advocate for the rights of the marginalized, and to defend the environment. We condemn the Chief Imam’s office decision and call on office and the spoke person’s Shiekh Armiyawo and Dr. Marzuk to retract such shambolic actions and apologise to the Ghanaian muslims. We also condemn the Muslim leaders who advised the chief Imama and his office to take this misguided step.
The USA Zongo Caucus is calling on the Chief Imam’s office and the Council of Muslim Chiefs to use their offices to address the galamsey menace and to advocate for the rights of the marginalized. The future of Ghana is at stake. Let us not be silent in the face of injustice. Let us rise up and demand accountability from our Muslim leaders.
