Martin Kwaku Ayisi, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Minerals Commission, has been reassigned to the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, government sources have confirmed to 3News.com. The reasons for his reassignment remain unclear. However, the move comes months after growing pressure on government to remove him from office.

In April 2025, the National Concerned Small-Scale Miners Association, Ghana (NCSSMAG), accused the Minerals Commission under Mr. Ayisi’s leadership of failing to provide effective solutions in the fight against illegal mining.

According to the Association’s President, Michael Kwadwo Peprah, the Commission’s “actions and inactions” had contributed to land and water degradation. He insisted that reforms at the Commission were crucial to strengthening the government’s anti-galamsey efforts.

It remains to be seen what role Mr. Ayisi will play at the Ministry following his reassignment.
