Former President John Mahama, Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has urged Ghanaians to prioritize truth and integrity over financial inducements from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming 2024 elections.

Addressing a gathering in Juapong, North Tongu, Volta Region, Mahama emphasized the need for citizens to vote based on their conscience, rather than succumbing to bribery.

Mahama, who is seeking to lead the National Democratic Congress (NDC) back to power, cautioned Ghanaians against accepting bribes from political parties, particularly the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

“If they give you money, take it and chop,” Mahama said, “but vote for the truth. Vote for the party that has the interest of Ghana at heart.”

Mahama’s statement comes on the heels of the recent Assin North bye-elections, where allegations of vote-buying and electoral malpractices marred the process.

The former President’s message resonated with the crowd, who cheered and chanted his name as he urged them to stand up for their rights and demand accountability from their leaders.

With the 2024 polls fast approaching, Mahama’s call to action is seen as a timely reminder to Ghanaians to prioritize the country’s interests above personal gains.
