I will set up a commission of enquiry to probe looted Ga Dangbe lands- Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his pledge to set up a commission of enquiry to probe the looting of Ga Dangme lands by the political class. At a listening tour in the La Dade-Kotopon constituency in the Greater Accra Region, he assured the chiefs and people of the area that he would capture the concerns of their looted lands in their manifesto for prompt redress in 2025 if the NDC comes to power.

John Dramani Mahama was in the company of the 2024 NDC campaign team and the Member of Parliament for the La Dade-Kotopon constituency, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah.

The entourage first paid a courtesy call on the traditional authorities of the La Traditional Council where a kingmaker of the Council, Nii Adjei Koofe IV expressed grave concern about the non-payment of royalties from the operations of key state institutions including the Kotoka International Airport sited on la lands. He said, “La is not benefitting from anything even though there are lots of state institutions on our land.”

“We want the next government to change the laws so that such institutions can begin to pay us royalties,” he added. Nii Adjei Koofe IV also bemoaned the rapid grabbing of lands belonging to the la stool. He said, “The politicians continue to grab our lands. They did it in the past and they are still doing it. Our lands at cantonment, Labone and now DVLA at 37 are all being taken without any engagement with the La Traditional Council. We feel that we are being disrespected.

He told the NDC flagbearer to change the narrative when he successfully stages a comeback to government. The NDC flagbearer assured the chiefs that the next NDC government will set up a commission of enquiry to probe all cases involving the looting of lands belonging to the Ga Dangme people.

He firmed his assurance by indicating that the NDC manifesto for the 2024 elections will capture in detail the looting of Ga Dangme lands for redress. He said the next NDC government is in a hurry to repair the mess caused by the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government which has taken the citizens through extreme economic hardship.
