Host of Abranaa So on TV XYZ, Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah, has described the 2023 Budget and economic policy as full of woes.
The vociferous broadcaster believes the budget will impoverish a lot Ghanaians because of the tax policies contained in it.
On Thursday, Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta announced an increment in the Valued Added Tax (VAT) by 2.5 percent and reduced the controversial E-levy rate from 1.5 percent to 1 percent, thereby removing the 100 cedis tax-free daily threshold.
Among other things, the government announced a freeze on public sector employment which triggered wide condemnation from labour experts and the opposition.
Commenting on the economic policy of the government for next year, Afrifa Mensah, a traditional ruler and broadcaster, said the Akufo-Addo government is bereft of ideas to move the nation forward. He said, Akufo-Addo should have learnt from the venerable former president John Agyekum Kufuor.
“Akufo-Addo has no clue about how to govern. He has to go and learn how to govern from former president Kufuor,” he said while lamenting the rising cost of living in the country. To him, the economy would not be on its knees if Akufo-Addo listened to experts on the dangers of borrowing excessively.
