Former President John Dramani Mahama has criticized the judiciary, highlighting what he sees as a gross injustice toward the people of Santrokofi, Akpafu, Likpe, and Lolobi (SALL). His comments follow the Supreme Court’s decision to stay Speaker Alban Bagbin’s ruling regarding the removal of the four Members of Parliament who switched their political allegiance.

Mahama has drawn attention to what he describes as glaring inconsistencies in the justice system, comparing the handling of the SALL case to that of other legal matters, and accusing the courts of unfairly applying the law. Speaking on the issue, Mahama emphasized that a justice system that lacks consistency is inherently unjust to the people of Ghana.

“The justice system must be consistent if it is inconsistent, it is not fair to the people of this country, because you can’t treat people one way. Four years they can be without a member of parliament, it doesn’t matter, their representation is not important to you. Gyakye Quayson should be out of parliament for almost two years it doesn’t matter because the Assin North people are not your people,” Mahama said.Mahama also criticised the lack of action on the SALL matter, calling it a “cardinal sin” of the Fourth Republic. He reiterated that such injustice should never happen again. According to him, the rights of all citizens in Ghana should be protected and every individual must be treated equally before the law.

“The people of Santrokofi, Akpafu, Lolobi, and Likpe are not inferior citizens of Ghana,” Mahama asserted. Mahama’s comments underscore the growing concern over perceived judicial inconsistencies, particularly when it comes to the rights of underrepresented communities.
