A/R: National Security Operatives intercept dozens of fake diapers
The National Security Operatives in the Ashanti Region have intercepted dozens of diapers suspected to be counterfeit.
According to the operatives, the diapers—branded with the name of a well-known Ghanaian company—were smuggled into the country from Nigeria using falsified documentation.
The interception occurred three weeks ago during a routine inspection at Asafo, where the suspicious products were discovered.
Samples of the seized diapers were submitted to the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), which confirmed that the items were indeed counterfeit and unsafe for public use.
Following the FDA’s directive, the National Security team, on August 20, 2025, handed over the products to Zoomlion’s Medical Waste Treatment Plant for safe and scientific disposal. Speaking to the media on Thursday, August 21, the Deputy Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator, Alhaji Tapsoba Alhassan, stated that efforts are currently underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for importing the fake products.
