The Director of Conflict Resolution for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Abraham Amaliba has asserted that there is no need for a debate on the economy between Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and John Dramani Mahama, as the current economic issues are already evident to Ghanaians.

According to him, Ghanaians observed a more favorable exchange rate during Mahama’s administration compared to the current situation. Speaking during a discussion on TV3, Abraham Amaliba said any debate with John Dramani Mahama would be suicidal for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

“He should go and debate with the exchange rate. The debate he is looking for with Mahama will be a complete waste of prime time and even suicidal for Bawumia,” Amaliba opined. The discussion about a potential debate between Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and John Dramani Mahama has intensified after Dr. Bawumia accused Mahama of being afraid to confront him.

Addressing supporters of the NPP in Nalerigu on Wednesday, July 10, the Vice President claimed that if the NDC flagbearer faced him directly, he would expose Mahama’s

I am looking forward to debate with John Dramani Mahana on the economy and governance, but I am afraid he is running away from a debate and his people say he doesn’t want a debate. He says he doesn’t want to debate because that I will expose the emptiness of his policies.

“He says he has a 24-hour economy policy that he cannot explain. It is as empty as an empty barrel. None of his people can explain it and they say they will be exporting lions and elephants,” Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia said.

He continued, “When we meet man-to-man, we can debate and the country will see where our policies lie and that is where we should go. Give the country an opportunity to listen to us, but if he chooses not to debate, I will continue to sell my policies to the people of Ghana and you will take the decision.” It remains unclear whether the flagbearers of the two leading political parties will debate before the December 7 polls.
