A Cry for Justice: The People of Korle Klottey Demand Fairness in the Appointment of Their Next MCE

The good people of Korle Klottey have long stood for fairness, justice, and the recognition of those who have tirelessly served their community. Today, we raise our voices to call for the rightful appointment of Hon. Muhammed Bashiru Nii Narh Alema Dowuona as the next Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly.
Hon. Bashiru is not just another aspirant seeking political office—he is a true son of the land, deeply rooted in the community, with a lifelong commitment to public service and grassroots development. A royal from Osu-Kinkanwe and a direct descendant of the prestigious Dowuona Ruling Clan, he has dedicated his life to serving the people of Korle Klottey, from political activism to infrastructural development and financial empowerment of constituents.
His academic credentials speak volumes of his competence. Hon. Bashiru holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Entrepreneurship from the University of Cape Coast, an HND in Management and Secretaryship from Accra Polytechnic, and a Master’s Degree in Logistics Management from Coventry University in the UK. His knowledge and expertise in governance, logistics, and business administration make him highly qualified for the MCE position.
Beyond academics, Hon. Bashiru’s contributions to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the people of Korle Klottey are unmatched. He was elected as Chairman of the Korle Klottey Constituency in 2014 and served diligently, mobilizing grassroots support, unifying party factions, and securing critical electoral victories. His dedication to the party has been evident since 1992 when he was selected as a Trainers’ Trainer of Polling Agents for the NDC in Korle Klottey. His leadership was further recognized when he served as the constituency’s Campaign Manager during the 2020 elections, leading the team to a resounding victory with over 8,000 votes.
In addition to his political service, Hon. Bashiru was appointed as a government representative in the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) from 2012 to 2016 under the tenure of Hon. Nii Armah Ashitey (MP). During his tenure, he worked relentlessly to advocate for better infrastructure, social interventions, and development projects that benefited the people of Korle Klottey.
He has personally funded and facilitated numerous party and community activities, including:
- Establishing a constituency office and furnishing it with necessary equipment.
- Mobilizing financial support for party activities, electoral campaigns, and logistical arrangements.
- Unifying the party’s fractured leadership in the constituency, ensuring harmony and collective action.
- Sponsoring the training and welfare of polling agents to safeguard electoral transparency.
- Providing logistical support for voter registration exercises and electoral activities.
The injustice we seek to correct is the exclusion of such a dedicated and capable leader from the shortlist of nominees for the MCE position. Despite his unwavering service and unparalleled contributions, certain political actors have sidelined him in favor of less experienced candidates. This is unacceptable! The people of Korle Klottey demand justice. We demand fairness. We demand recognition of Hon. Bashiru’s years of hard work and sacrifice.
We call upon the highest-ranking authorities of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, and all relevant stakeholders to heed the cries of the people. Hon. Bashiru has proven beyond doubt that he is not only capable but the most qualified person for this role.
Let this appointment not be based on favoritism or backdoor negotiations, but on merit, dedication, and the voice of the people. Korle Klottey deserves a leader who understands its needs, has served its people diligently, and has a vision for sustainable development. That leader is Hon. Muhammed Bashiru Nii Narh Alema Dowuona.
