Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, Member of Parliament for the Buem constituency, has called on Ghanaians to vote for John Dramani Mahama in the upcoming elections, emphasizing the need for leadership change to improve living standards. Speaking in an interview on Dream 97.1 FM with Nana Yaw Asiamah, Adams highlighted the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) track record in enhancing the quality of life for citizens and urged the public to trust Mahama’s vision for Ghana.
Challenges NPP’s Free SHS Claims
Adams challenged Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s assertion that the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy has benefited over five million students. He argued that the total number of Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates from 2017 to 2024 does not support this claim. “Granted that all candidates who sat for BECE from 2017 till date transitioned to SHS, their number would be a little over three million. Where has Dr. Bawumia and the NPP got their five million from? It’s not even possible that all BECE candidates completed SHS. Many dropped out for various reasons,” Adams stated.
Criticism of Expired Food Distribution
Hon. Adams also criticized the government for supplying expired food items to schools, labeling it a significant health risk. He proposed reverting to the previous system, where schools managed their own food procurement. “This government is noted for giving expired food to students,” he remarked. “It’s not only expired rice.
They gave schools expired tomatoes, oil, and other products. The NPP pretends not to know this. Even the Deputy Minister of Education, Rev. Ntim Fordjour, is aware. The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) knows this. Some of the products are not even registered. You cannot entrust the country to leaders who lack truthfulness.”
Broken Promises in Cape Coast
Adams further criticized Dr. Bawumia for unfulfilled promises made during a visit to Cape Coast, where he pledged to build an airport and a harbor. These promises were later dismissed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
“Bawumia, seeing that the Cape Coast crowd wasn’t impressed, promised them an airport and a harbor just to excite the audience. The president later dismissed the promise. I am amazed that Bawumia still has followers. He lies, and when caught, he tells another lie. Ghanaians must not vote for someone like that,” Adams said.
A Call for Honest Leadership
As the elections draw near, Hon. Kofi Adams reiterated his support for John Mahama, urging Ghanaians to prioritize honesty, accountability, and integrity in choosing their leaders. “We need leadership that we can trust—leaders who prioritize the welfare of the people and not just empty promises,” he concluded.
