4 dead, 17 injured in accident at Asuboi

A fatal accident on the Accra–Kumasi highway at Asuboi near Suhum in the Eastern Region has left four dead – three men and a woman with 17 others injured.

A statement by the Eastern Regional Ghana National Fire Service on Sunday, August 17 said the accident occurred when a Kumasi-to-Accra bound Sprinter bus with registration number GW-5535-24 suffered a rear tyre burst at high speed, causing the driver to lose control and crashing the vehicle.

Seventeen passengers sustained injuries, 11 males and 6 females, while four others, three men and a woman, died on the spot.  The Suhum Municipal Fire Station responded to a distress call about the accident and reported to the scene.

The injured were transported to Suhum Government Hospital and the deceased were taken to the hospital morgue. The sprinter vehicle was partially damaged.
